I have always been an animal person and found great comfort in their company and loyalty, no more so than my collie cross Jake who was forever at my side and travelled everywhere i went. Now when Jake sadly passed away i was devastated and found a huge hole in my life, it was the little things like making a coffee and not seeing him sat next to me when i opened the fridge or when i put my coat on no excited jumping and grabbing of the lead that hung up.
So as time went by i started to think of buying a new dog, not that i could ever replace Jake that was never my intention but to have company and the thought of having a new puppy again and training it and having a new addition to the family really started to seem a good idea. The breed of the dog was never an important factor and i was sure that when i saw the one i would know, I looked at breeders in my area but i was forever thinking of helpless and abandoned dogs that lived in kennels or shelters and thought that me giving a good home really started looking like my preferred option.
While looking over the Internet i came across the site

which was showing the very urgent need for adoptive families for literally hundreds of dogs who every year are discarded from homes for whatever reason and left to roam the streets living a very hard and difficult life. This charity is owned by the Pimentel family who make it their mission to take the stray dogs from the street and house them and ultimately find loving and caring homes for them, which in Mexico is becoming increasingly harder.
So now they have started a very successful and heartfelt charity which aims to inform and educate people of Mexico about such issues and to also asks people from the United States and Canada to think about adopting a Mexican dog….and when they say adopt they do not mean donate money and receive photos and letters they really mean adopt and they will take care of relocating these beautiful and loving dogs who only need a caring and supporting environments to which to show their true personalities without fear of abuse and neglect.
I did just this after looking at their site i came across Maribella who’s photo was of a scruffy looking but ultimately beautiful mixed dog which i knew i had to take care of, i read the information and profile that stated she was abandoned and left to walk the streets in a pack of dogs and as she was submissive was usually singled out for attacks by other dogs. I was nearly crying as i sent an email to the site asking for details on how to get Maribella and what i had to pay, and i was really surprised to find out how easy it was they called me the very next day and conducted a telephone interview and took my details they then had there partners who work with them to make the necessary checks and make sure i was a good candidate and all they asked for was a 25 dollar fee….can you believe it 25 dollars and they would have Maribella sent to me in one week healthy and checked by vets. I did not think i could wait a week after seeing her face and it felt like forever before the flight arriving which carried Maribella arrived and i met here for the very first time….and i knew i had done the right thing, she was a little nervous at the start but after coaxing her out of the travel cage she came up to me and sniffed my face as if we were long lost friends. That was six months ago and she has never left my side since, she really is the nicest and gentlest dog she is fun, friendly full of love and life. I really thank my lucky stars for finding this website and the charity and learning more about the many dogs in need and if i could i would have them all live with me, but that unfortunately is not possible so i am spreading the word about this marvelous charity in the hope that like minded people can help and provide a warm and caring environment for such well meaning and deserving dogs, I still am in touch and send little donations to help with food and vet bills and will continue to do so as i know that without my help more Maibellas will be forgotten.
